The winter learning journey:Day 1 Bonus Activity

Bonus Activity: Now it’s time to start your tour! Curious Kiwi decides to start by taking you on a short tour through downtown Auckland. You stop at the Sky Tower, the tallest building in all of New Zealand. When you look up, you see a huge New Zealand flag on the top of the tower. This flag was created back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!

The BLUE represents the sky and all the waters around New Zealand.

The GREEN represents open spaces in New Zealand like the dense bush, soaring native trees and lush grass.

The STARS represents Matariki (The Maori new year) which is special to New Zealand because you can only see them during a certain time.

The MAP of New Zealand represents all the islands that make up where we live.

Finally the KIWI represents us as people we are ourselves and we are unique and special because it is our national animal but they are an endangered and only found in New Zealand.

    1. Hi Patience,

I agree with Dianne, this is AMAZING! I love how creative you designed your flag using colours and icons to represent Aotearoa. So clever! Your description is so clear for readers to understand what you have visioned. Great work Patience! I'm so proud of you!

      Best wishes,

  3. Patience,

What a fantastic flag and I especially love the Stars of Matariki! What an interesting way to acknowledge Maori as the Tangata Whenua of New New Zealand. I look forward to reading more of your Blog posts!
