Activity 1: Towering Timbers [4 points]

There is a long and rich history of logging in New Zealand. Logging involves cutting down trees. The people who cut them down are called loggers. The trees that they cut down are sold and used to build things (eg. houses), to make products (eg. paper), and to generate (create) heat and power. Over the past two centuries, many of the trees in New Zealand have been cut down by loggers. Some people like logging because it creates jobs for the loggers and generates money for New Zealand while others are against (opposed to) logging. Many of those opposed are worried that logging will damage the environment. It might also force animals who live in trees (eg. owls) to find new homes.

What do you think about logging?

On your blog tell us whether you think logging should be allowed in New Zealand. Be sure to provide at least two reasons to support your argument.

It is a pretty difficult decision to make because logs are cut down for people to live, but then cutting the trees down are no good for the environment.

I'm going to have to go with not cutting down trees. My first reason is because once a tree is cut down animals (like birds) are going to have to find a new home because most live in trees. My second reason is, cutting down trees might effect our breathing because, we get our oxygen from trees, and if people cut down too many trees, it will be difficult to breath.

Summer Learning Journey WK1 Day 3 Activity 1

In my mind I have created an unusual beast, it is called mermaid-corn. It is a Unicorn, human and a Mermaid combined together.

The head of the Mermaid-corn has a normal human head with the white shiny horn in the front of her head to show the unicorn side of her.
The body of the Mermaid-corn has a human body and wear's a lot of weird charms on her wrists.
The bottom half of her is the mermaid tail, she has a nice pastel purple tail with matches with her bright purple hair and colourful charms.

The Mermaid-corn sound like a high, pitched horse neigh. They often smell like cotton candy which sounds pretty weird right?
